Choosing the Court that’s Best for You
Knowing What’s Best
We know how great a good sports surface is…but we also know how overwhelming it can be to confidently choose the right surface! Afterall, there are so many examples out there, some of them outstanding, some of them not.
You need to consider the end use. What sport or sports are going to be played on the surface? Do you need a specialist surface or a solid allrounder?
What about location? Access? Traffic?
Then, of course, there’s cost. How much is this thing going to sting?
While some clients come to the table with a clear vision and a defined budget, we often find ourselves working with folk who are on a steep learning curve as they journey towards the best court to meet their needs. However, we’re always there to guide them on their way to the very best surface for their circumstances.

Nga Puna Wai Sports Hub
Nga Puna Wai Sports Hub is a collaborative partnership between the Christchurch City Council and various sporting entities, including Tennis Canterbury. A premier sports facility, Nga Puna Wai rose like a phoenix from the ashes following the tragedy of the 2011 Christchurch earthquake. Featuring hockey, netball, athletics, rugby league and tennis, Nga Puna Wai comprises 32 hectares of sporting and recreational rapture for the community! With parking, grassed boulevards and cafes, this is a facility that defines excellence, its only drawback the biting easterly wind that imposes its cold teeth onto the grounds – but that’s what shelterbelt hedges are for, right?!
While Tennis Canterbury’s home and beating heart remains at their century-old headquarters, Wilding Park, we were responsible for installing twelve International Tennis Federation-certified tennis courts using our Laykoldâ Masters system at Nga Puna Wai. This system was chosen as the preferred surface because of its ability to withstand high usage over a long period of time, the vibrant colour schemes and its multi-use applications, including netball and basketball.
Officially opened on 8th March 2019, the courts are still looking great today and playing well, a reflection of getting it right the first time round with the best sports surface specific to tennis at Nga Puna Wai.
A Multi Surface for the Masses
Remember wet lunchtimes when you were at school? Or the times the sun was shining but the fields were still closed because they were a muddy bog? Maybe your school was tight for space and your playground was a concrete jungle, the perfect recipe for grazed knees and broken arms?!
While brushed concrete or asphalt remains a valid option as a sports surface, it has significant drawbacks, injuries being at the forefront of our minds. However, we have a multisport surface that is a winning option for schools and community multi-sports courts.
Think of a surface that encompasses tennis, hopscotch, basketball and pickleball all on the same court, a product that reduces slippage, is well-drained, clearly marked and professionally installed!
